Dr.C.Ramasubramanian., M.D., D.P.M., Ph.D.

Dr. C.Ramasubramanian (Dr. CRS), a distinguished luminary in the field of mental health with a rich legacy of over 40 years. Hailing as a trailblazer from Madurai District, his journey has been punctuated by remarkable achievements. Notably, he etched his name in history by securing the pioneering Ph.D. in Community Psychiatry from Madurai Kamaraj University in 2012, building upon earlier laurels from Madurai Medical College. Driven by an unwavering dedication to community psychiatry and psycho-social rehabilitation, his ardor originates from personal encounters with mental health stigma, ignited while caring for his own brother. This ignited his vision for comprehensive mental health rehabilitation services in India.

Accolades

• Dr.C.R.S has been appointed as State Nodal Officer consistently for the past five years on Extension of service to Co-ordinate the Mental Health Programmes of Tamil Nadu. This is a first of its kind in Tamil Nadu when a retired Govt. Official has been provided with extension of services for about five years for his yeoman service towards the welfare of the Mentally Different (Disabled) persons
• Under his able guidance, the District Mental Health Programme is currently being implemented in sixteen districts of Tamil Nadu which is the highest in any State of our country.
• His District Mental Health Programme – Madurai has been adjudged as the best programme in the entire country.
• Because of his efforts, all the District Head Quarters Hospitals have obtained the services of a designated full time Psychiatrist, Earlier, patients could access mental health care services only at the Medical College Hospitals.
• His Ramnad programme was adjudged as the best project by the Australian Govt. and now this project is being taken up as a Collaborative Programme between India and Australia.
